Our Story

Dipti and Sanjiv Gupta became winemakers almost by fate, guided by a love for nature, adventure, and a dream that never left their hearts. For years, they found joy in hiking the rugged trails of the Saratoga and Los Gatos hills, where they would pause to admire the breathtaking views and imagine owning a home on a hill, surrounded by rolling vineyards and overlooking a sun-kissed valley. But life, as it often does, had other plans. Raising their children in Cupertino, they poured their energy into building a life centered around family and education, putting their dream on hold but never letting it fade away.

As their children, Arjun and Ananya, grew and left for college, Dipti and Sanjiv were drawn back to that lingering vision. They discovered a hidden gem—a house tucked away in Almaden Valley, nestled amid the tranquility of a 1.6-acre, 10-year-old vineyard. It was love at first sight. With the hills embracing them and the vines whispering stories of potential and passion, the Guptas realized their dream had taken root in a way they hadn’t quite imagined. What began as a serendipitous encounter with a hillside home blossomed into a deep, soulful journey into winemaking.

Today, Dipti and Sanjiv pour their hearts into crafting exceptional Merlot wines that reflect not only the rich, fertile land they are blessed to cultivate but also their own journey of patience, love, and rediscovery. Their Merlot is more than just a wine—it is a tribute to life's unexpected turns and the beauty that can arise from them. With its deep, velvety texture, hints of dark fruit, and a delicate balance of spice, their Merlot captures the essence of the vineyard they now call home. For Dipti and Sanjiv, each bottle is a celebration—a reminder that sometimes, the most beautiful paths are the ones you stumble upon.

Our Logo

The winery's logo is deeply personal, symbolizing the family’s shared journey and heritage. Designed around the Berkeley Bear, the logo honors the fact that both Dipti and Sanjiv, along with their children, Arjun and Ananya, are proud alumni of Berkeley Haas Business School. The initials "SD" within the design represent Dipti and Sanjiv, a testament to their partnership and shared passion. The delicate vines that weave along the sides of the logo celebrate their Indian heritage, symbolizing growth, resilience, and the deep-rooted connections to their culture. This blend of symbolism beautifully encapsulates their story—a journey of dreams, family, heritage, and the art of winemaking.
